C3: Explore magnifying devices and how they allow one to see in more detail.

Curriculum Organizing Questions	How does the appearance of this item change when we look at it with a magnifier? What new things can you notice when you look at this with a magnifier?
Elaboration	Students should be encouraged to use hand lenses to make things appear 3 to 10 times bigger and more detailed, and should be encouraged to wonder about what they might see with more powerful lenses. Benchmarks p. 110
Specific Ideas	Magnifiers make things appear to be larger. Magnifiers help us to see things we can not see with our eyes alone. Benchmark s5C1
Developmental & Instructional Implications	Fine motor skills are generally not yet well enough developed for students to use microscopes.Keep it simple.
