|Spanish 1 is an introductory class that exposes the student to Spanish vocabulary through gesturing, listening, speaking and reading. Students will use newly acquired vocabulary to tell and write stories. Extended readings will be given as homework. This class is conducted in both English and Spanish with a focus to stay in the target language as much as possible. The text and materials are from Blaine Ray who invented TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) and provide structure for the student to increase their level of proficiency through listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish. Students will also study the geography of Spain as well as Central and South America. Hispanic culture will be a continuous topic of discussion. Daily conversation questions will encourage students to become more comfortable with speaking. Students will also use the Language Lab to enhance their speaking and listening skills. The focus of Spanish 1 is to develop basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in the Spanish language.
