Spanish II
World Languages

Description:
Spanish 2 builds on what was learned in Spanish 1.  This class is conducted in both English and Spanish with a focus to stay in the target language as much as possible.  The text and materials are from Blaine Ray who invented TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) and provide structure for the student to increase their level of proficiency through listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish.  Students will also expand their knowledge of Hispanic culture.  Vocabulary is acquired through listening and reading.  Students will use newly acquired vocabulary to tell and write stories.  Within the context of vocabulary acquisition students will learn to use the present tense, object pronouns, reflexive verbs and idiomatic expressions.  In the fourth quarter students will be introduced to the past tenses (preterit and imperfect).  Students will use the Language Lab to develop speaking and listening skills.

Outcomes:
By the end of the course students can be expected to have an increased understanding of spoken Spanish, be able to speak and write using simple sentences in the present tense and be developing proficiency with future time (ir a + infinitive) and past tenses (preterite and imperfect).
