This course is designed to give students an authentic field experience in tropical marine biology. The course is centrally designed around an 11-day summer visit to the Island School/Cape Eleuthera Institute in Eleuthera, Bahamas. During the spring semester, students work in teams to investigate a selected research opportunity. Students develop a formal research proposal, conduct literature reviews, create an experimental methodology, and master fish identification. Subsequent summer travel allows them to conduct their research on-site, where data will be collected, processed, and analyzed. Upon return, CHRHS students will develop formal presentations reviewing their research, results, and conclusions. These presentations will be delivered at a public forum. The course will be assessed on a pass/fail system.
