|This course largely focuses on non-Western societies during the late modern period, including China, Africa, India, and the Middle East. Specific attention is devoted to the convergence of Western and native influences within these societies from the 19th century to the present. The course also includes a unit on twentieth-century global conflicts, including World War I and II. A variety of student-centered activities featuring critical thinking, writing, researching, interviewing and presenting will be incorporated into the class. The course may be organized chronologically or thematically and may be contract-based, depending on the instructor.
