Honors US History I-2
Social Studies

Description:

Like College Preparatory sections, this course covers United States history, geography, economy, government, cultural and intellectual events, and foreign policy from the Jacksonian period through the late nineteenth century. The first half of the course focuses on Jacksonian democracy, American reform movements of the mid-nineteenth century, westward expansion, and the growth of sectionalism. The second half of the course addresses the Civil War, Reconstruction, the settlement of the American West, and the Industrial Revolution. Many of the critical thinking and writing activities involve document-based essay prompts from the A.P. program. Particular attention is devoted to the interpretation of primary documents and to essay writing. Students interested in taking A.P. U.S. History as juniors should take this course.
