ENG II: Writer's Craft Prose

The curriculum for English II consists of four components: literature, writing, vocabulary, and grammar (usage and mechanics). The literature component uses prose texts (selected by the teacher) to teach students how to read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently. The writing component develops students’ abilities to communicate effectively in various modes (eg. analysis, argument, synthesis, narrative, poetry, and drama) with a focus on a text’s specific task, audience, and purpose. The vocabulary component is derived from texts used in the classroom and/or Vocabulary for Achievement. The grammar component emphasizes usage and mechanics.
