COURSE/SUBJECT TITLE: Physical Education
GRADE LEVEL: 8th
LENGTH OF TIME: One Quarter (100 minutes every other day)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class focuses on each student's individual fitness level. Students are introduced to various individual and group activities that will allow choices participating in a positive active lifestyle. The units covered are:
UNIT #1: Fitness Testing Challenge
UNIT #2: Individual Sports
UNIT #3: Cooperative Sports
REPORTING STANDARD: Movement and motor skills
Students will acquire and demonstrate the following Badminton skills: underhand serve, forehand and backhand strokes.
Students will know the rules of Badminton and will play a singles or doubles game using basic court strategy.
Students will know and demonstrate the eleven steps to Archery success.
REPORTING STANDARD: Health-related physical fitness
Students will practice and complete the curl-up, shuttle run, pull-up, sit and reach, and endurance walk/run tests.
Students will design a personal fitness plan using the data gathered from the fitness test.
Students will understand the value in continuing their fitness plan beyond end of the term.
REPORTING STANDARD: Personal and social safety skills
Students will demonstrate the safety rules of Archery.
Students will demonstrate the proper care of Archery equipment.
Students will plan and apply strategies for individual and cooperative lead up games and games such as Omnikin
Students will know and practice safe and respectful interactions (good sportsmanship) during physical activities.
