PENOBSCOT BAY LACROSSE
Dear Interested Lacrosse Players!
It is time to dig out your cleats and grab your stick for spring lacrosse.
Practice with Penobscot Bay Lacrosse begins April 15 for area middle school children interested in playing contact lacrosse. All athletes are welcome, with no previous experience with lacrosse necessary. The season will run for approximately 10 weeks.
The goals are simple: Teach basics skills of lacrosse and help develop a core group of players to play the game.
This is a collective volunteer effort, and help is always welcome to build a strong program and club. However, it is also time to get the players on the field, so let's begin!
Here are details:
When and Where? Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
Practice begins Tuesday, April 15, and will continue every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. The first practice will either be at the Snow Bowl or Rockport Elementary School East, depending on the weather and field conditions. If practice is at RES, it will begin a little later to allow for school to close. Please stay tuned for e-mails about this. If you don't regularly check e-mail, please let us know so that we can determine how best to communicate throughout this fairly short season. Communication is key. Please be aware that practice location may change and it is important we remain flexible as we get established and fields dry.
On Saturdays, practice and/or scrimmages and games will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Camden Snow Bowl.
How? We are setting up a registration process online and will send you that website link early this coming week. It is important to complete all registration forms (medical, etc.), and we will all be registering with U.S. Lacrosse as a group. If you haven't visited uslacrosse.org, please do so to familiarize yourselves with the benefits, including insurance.
There will also be a late registration table for walk-ins on April 15 or for those who do not want to register online.
How Much? Registration fee is $75, which includes a $25 mandatory registration with U.S. Lacrosse. If that is too steep, please let Maryann or Rona know and we'll work it out. If you have more to contribute, Great!
Equipment? This lacrosse program will teach the basics of contact lacrosse. That means that safe equipment is imperative. We are working hard to solicit donations and/or second-hand equipment from private schools and colleges. In the meantime, get a stick for not more than $30. Just as important, get a mouth guard and a cup. If you have some hockey and soccer pads and other such protective gear, grab it. It will do until we get the equipment situation squared away. If you don't have anything and can't afford buying new gear, don't sweat it. We'll try to figure it out.
Most important to bring to the field is a serious game attitude. This lacrosse program is for those who want to play lacrosse, and are on the field to learn.
What about Games? After players build some skills, coaches will determine the possibility of scrimmages with other clubs in the state.
Coaches? Josh Ledwith is our head coach, with assistance from Windsor Williams, Evan Ciraldo, and Jim Dill. There is room for more coaches, so if you know someone who is willing to help out with this age group, please forward this e-mail along to him or her.
Fundraising? If you have time and talent for fundraising, your help is important. Please don't hesitate. This is a new effort that relies on everyone to make it a success.
Questions? E-mail Maryann, info@youngtowninn.com (542-9930)
Rona, 120summer@elspearinc.com
or Lynda, lynda.clancy@verizon.net
See you on the field!
