General Academic Vocabulary consists of vocabulary that
students are likely to encounter during their academic lives, from at least
fifth grade until their formal schooling is complete. The words are different from conversational language, yet
are vital for success in a school environment because they are commonplace in
academia. These are words are
commonly found in academia – textbooks, informational text, standardized test
questions and directions, etc.
Knowledge of these words leads to better understanding in all content
areas.
This link lists all the words in the CRMS general academic
vocabulary program. Each grade
level learns one word per week, taught across all content areas.
