Who are the Windplanners?
The Windplanners is a student group working to make a difference by installing a wind turbine on the campus of Camden Hills Regional High School. The Windplanners have gathered site data, researched wind feasibility, worked with town officials to change local ordinances, attended and testified at PUC hearings, and are now fundraising to purchase and install the Northwind 100kw turbine. Once installed, we plan to continue with helping to integrate this turbine into course curriculum and be a resource to the greater community.
Why we’re doing it?
Dependency on foreign supplies of fossil fuels jeopardizes our economic and political safety. Coal is dirty. As a society, our demand for electricity continues to increase.
Current global warming is linked to human activity. We are changing landscapes so that less carbon is being pulled out of the atmosphere. We have to do something about it now! Increasing renewable energy sources on campus is an action we students can take to make a difference now!
