|Family and Consumer Science|
I moved to beautiful mid-coast Maine and started teaching family and consumer sciences at CRMS in 1999. I had been teaching at Manheim Township Middle School near Lancaster, PA for 10 years and come here to be with my husband. Prior to teaching at Township I taught in western Massachusetts, at a Lancaster Mennonite middle school, did a short stint with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic and worked at Rodale Press testing and producing recipes.
I love the variety in and practicality of FCS and it's great to create lessons that include real life application and hands on activities. The major units include food and nutrition, child care/babysitting, basic sewing skills and career education. But I often include science, history, math and literacy skills in these units to add depth and cross-curricular learning.
Outside of school I enjoy gardening, making jewelry, knitting, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and non-fiction books. And hanging out with my dog, Sophie!
